| I've started reading a Psalm each night before going to bed and one in the morning, either at breakfast or on the train. I'm trying to become more disciplined in these sorts of things and build a life that is more dependent on God instead of myself. Thought this would be a good way to start. I started with Psalm 35, randomly and am at 45 now. So, if you see me often, ask me about it and make sure I keep up with it. I plan on referencing it and writing about it as well.
That's all for now... | | |
| Hopefully this post will have a bit more meat to it than the last two. Sorry about that. I needed to spew before bed so I could sleep. I spent about 2 weeks not sleeping well at all, but after returning from Jason and Robin's wedding, I have been sleeping well. Part of that is probably because I've been really careful to drink lots of water, not eat right before bed, and clear my head before putting it down on my pillow.
So.......
I heard on NPR the other day about Native American women getting raped. 1 in 3 will be raped in their lifetime, and almost all the time it is done by a non-native man. The problem is that the police force of the reservations are REALLY small, because of federal funding. Second, when the cases go on to higher levels of American government and 'justice' like the FBI they are rarely given much time, since it isn't drug rings, terrorist, etc. When are we as a nation FINALLY going to come to grips with what we did and continue to do to the native populations of this land? When are we going to FINALLY apologize and attempt to make things right, not on our terms, but on theirs? Probably never. When is the American church going to step up, listen to the stories of natives, and seek reconciliation? More likely, but probably not very likely.
Iraqis are fleeing their country like crazy. Almost 2 million have fled since the US and 'our allies' invaded. This is causing A LOT of problems in the area, obviously. The US has pledged to let 7,000 refugees into our county by September. So far we've let in a few hundred.
Everybody and their mom is talking about the environment these days. A lot of the talk goes to making cleaner cars, etc. These are great. I would love to drive a hybrid. However, this isn't going to solve the problem. What we actually need to do is realize that we are not living in ways that are congruent with the world around us. We need to start living different. Traveling and working in such a way that is in harmony with the earth, atmosphere, and God's creation. We need to start giving up our life style here in America that demands that the earth be shit upon, the poor of the world make everything we use, and many people of the world be held down so that we can live the "American Dream". It's bull shit.
Well....that's all for now.

That's all for now. Yes, another lame spew post, but more will come. For now, I leave you with this:

| Well, I think I'm going to try and get back into this.....
A short update: I'm moving to Chicago over Labor Day weekend. I have a applied to work in the HNGR office and as the Director of Youth Ministries at a church I really like Fratky...still and more
Things that are on my mind because of NPR that I want to write/blog/discuss about:
Native American situation-women getting raped, the whole deal, etc. Darfur (Duh) Iraqi displaced people causing issues in the ME N/S Korea West/Islam relations Iraq war/War on Terror/Afghanistan DRC/CAR/Uganda Somalia The Church's response to all of the above and other issues.....
Yeah, that's a lot to just put out there, but it is late and I needed to spew before going to bed. More to come....I hope.

| I just watched Blood Diamonds. WoW is about all that I have to say right now. OK, that is untrue, I'm going to say some more stuff too. It probably wasn't healthy for me to watch this movie, considering I almost dropped out of college to go to Darfur after watching Hotel Rwanda. (Seriously, I almost did). I resignated a lot with the reporter in the movie, who is referred to at one point as an 'action junkie'. I understand. Something needs to be done about all the big stuff in the world, but what...
I've decided I'm going to put together a day of fasting for Darfur and other such things, with good readings, meditations, etc. Hopefully I'll put that together this weekend. It will be through e-mail and hopefully will lead to a lot of prayer, reflection, and all around goodness. We'll see what happens.
Since I forgot to put a crazy picture up last time, here are two.
